I'm leaving Taiwan and going to Tokyo for achieving one of my most awaited for dreams ^^.
Taoyuan International Airport is the largest airport in Taiwan and it is next to Taipei. Still you cannot get there by metro, but a metro connection is under construction. The best ways to get to the airport are by bus from Taipei Main Station or by taxi, being possible to negotiate a fixed fare with the taxi driver beforehand.
One of the amazing things of this airport is that you can find many themed areas, so the waiting for a flight is less painful ^^. The first of the themed areas I saw is the Hello Kitty area.
Hello Kitty cabins for making the last calls before departing ^^.
Taoyuan Airport hall corridor next to the Hello Kitty waiting room.
In this area I saw very beautiful illustrations about Asia with Hello Kitty (and friends) as the main character.
Hello Kitty seats in the waiting room ^^.
Next flights on the information screens. I'm able to recognize only one of the destinations on the screens (Hong Kong). >___<
Hello Kitty play room.
Next to the waiting room I saw a huge Hello Kitty product shop. They had everything!
In addition to the Hello Kitty area, I saw some other waiting areas with different flavors. The library area is decorated with computer motherboards.
In the library area you can obviously find a lot of books for reading while you wait for your flight.
I still have to get better Chinese reading abilities, so I kept looking other themes areas in the airport ^_^U...
Airport themed areas directory.
Plant area =).
Interesting fact about Taiwan. Receipts you get from the shops are also tickets for lotteries organized by the country government. This is for making people always ask for their receipts when they buy something and prevent the possible tax fraud from merchants that don't pay all the tax amount they should. I think it is an strange measure, but it makes sense given the huge existing amount of small sellers. In many places these receipts can be donated for charity.
Next themed area is the post area!
Even that these days few people send personal letters I think that it is a very special way for getting in touch with people that matters. I'm always very happy to send and receive hand-written letters ^^. It's sad to see post letters slowly disappear.
Old post delivery bike.
Old post mailbox.
Post delivery motorbike ^^.
More old mailboxes that allows to learn the evolution of these objects during recent history.
The oldest mailbox among all.
I found this toy shop mong the many shops in Taoyuan Airport. Seeing a toy shop with a huge Gundam figure at the entrance means that you are in Asia ^^.
Hello Kitty breastfeeding room.
Curious name for a cafe in Taiwan. Casa Mila is one of the most famous buildings from architect Antoni Gaudí in Barcelona. I wonder if the owners of this cafe are Gaudí fans.
The cafe has nothing to do with Gaudí. It is 100% asian style.
Rolex watch for being sure of not losing the flight.
Traditional Chinese board game area. Anyone knows the name of this game?
Before going into the plane it is always advised to relax with King-fu massage.
Checking the screen for not losing my flight ^^.
That's it! Flight destination Tokyo at 12:50h!
The waiting room where I had to stay was scary, featuring fruits that may come from my worst nightmares. I don't know which one is the most scary heheheh!
About to fly to Tokyo with Cathay Pacific, an airline that I didn't even know about it existence before coming to Asia.
What are your thoughts about Taoyuan Airport? Very different from what can be seen in other countries, right?
